2023 Jeep Renegade 4xe: What to expect

The 2022 Jeep Renegade has launched in the Brazilian market, which serves as a preview for the global specification, scheduled for the coming months. The restyled SUV sports certain visual changes, both on the exterior and interior, which we expect to be inherited by the 2023 Jeep Renegade 4xe PHEV in Europe. However, the hybrid powertrain launched with the Jeep Renegade 4xe in 2019 is expected to remain unchanged.

Design

The exterior doesn’t offer drastic changes, except for rehashed styling to make the SUV appear more dynamic. These include a narrower front grille with vertical slats, redesigned front bumper, skid plate with red and grey inserts to heighten the SUV’s sporty look.

On the sides of the 2022 Jeep Renegade, there’s a new stylish alloy wheel design, dual-tone black and grey ORVMs, a grey skid plate with a red tow hook on the left, and a revamped LED taillamp cluster which consists of two LED strips instead of the X-shaped lights.

Defining features like the prominent squared wheel arches, body cladding, blacked-out A, B, C-pillars, functional roof rails, roof-mounted rear spoiler are carried forward from the current model. There is an optional matte black strip available for the bonnet as well.

Interior

On the inside of the 2022 Jeep Renegade, the overall layout of the cabin should remain the same, except for the addition of USB-C ports on the dashboard, a new steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, updated software for the digital infotainment system. The upholstery might also witness an upgrade depending on the variant. Customers would continue having three variants to pick from — Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk.

Powertrain

The current powertrain of the Jeep Renegade 4xe pairs a 1.3-litre petrol engine with electric motors both at the front and rear axle. The motor on the front axle, in addition to aiding the engine, acts as a high-voltage generator. The rear motor features the reduction gear and integrated differential (e-axle) with an output of 60 hp and 250 Nm. The electric motors are powered by an 11.4 kWh, 400 Volt, Lithium-Ion, nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack.

The combined output for the Limited and Longitude variants is 190 hp, and for the off-road spec Trailhawk, it is 240 hp. The hybrid powertrain also enables an electric-only drive range of 26 miles or 42 km (WLTP). Various drive modes on the Renegade include Snow, Mud & Sand, Rock and Auto. The 2023 Jeep Renegade 4xe PHEV should premiere with the same features and specifications.

Price & Release Date

Having already been unveiled in Brazil, the global unveil of the restyled Renegade should take place in the coming months, with largely similar looks. The prices of the current model of the Jeep Renegade 4xe PHEV start in the UK at around £33,000 (OTR). The updated model is expected to come with a nominal increment. Jeep has also introduced a new Renegade eHybrid model for Europe this year with a mild-hybrid engine.
