Revived as a fully electric compact SUV-coupe, the Cologne-built Ford Capri has not achieved the sales success the company had expected. To do better, Ford has introduced several updates to make the SUV-coupe more appealing, alongside the 2026 Ford Explorer EV.
I got to experience the 2026 Ford Capri in the ‘Collection’ trim at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and here’s my report:
The 2026 Ford Capri brings a significant improvement in the range of the base version. Instead of the old model’s 52 kWh NMC battery pack, it has a 58 kWh LFP unit. This change has increased the WLTP range from 243 to 286.5 miles, an improvement of approximately 18%.
The maximum charging rate has reduced from 145 kW to 105 kW. However, the 58 kWh LFP battery pack takes 26 minutes for a 10-80% DC charging session, just one more minute than the 52 kWh NMC unit. Pro Power Onboard allows customers to power external devices at up to 2.3 kW.
In terms of performance, the 2026 Capri is significantly better than the old model. Ford has introduced a new motor that produces 140 kW (188 bhp) and 350 Nm (258 lb.-ft.) of torque, representing gains of 15 kW (20 bhp) and 40 Nm (30 lb.-ft.), respectively.
While the top speed has remained unchanged at 160 km/h (99 mph), the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time has reduced by 0.7 seconds to 8.0 seconds.
The 2026 Ford Capri brings several cosmetic updates as well, aimed at creating a sportier character. The new Collection trim features deeper front and rear valances, side skirts, and rear spoiler painted in black, and it can be specified with longitudinal black stripes as an option.
Customers can order it in an exclusive Tribute Blue paint and specify it with new 21-inch alloy wheels, part-finished in Satin Black.
Interior changes in the Ford Capri Collection include a Black Onyx colour, a unique black and blue speckle effect for the dashboard and centre console, Tribute Blue accents on the lower soundbar and seatbelts, and vertical stripe inserts in the seats.
The new Capri’s infotainment system comes with a new Android-based operating system featuring a refreshed design theme and larger parking and navigation views across the range.
Ford took this opportunity to also improve the driver assistance technologies of the Capri. For example, Reversing Assist records the path for up to 50 metres and automates steering.
Park Assist with Memory can save up to five different parking scenarios and fully automate parking for up to 50 metres. Ford has made one-pedal drive standard across the range.
In the UK, the prices of the new Ford Capri start at GBP 35,485 and go up to GBP 47,605.
