Hyundai Kona EV in India now with free extended warranty

The Hyundai Kona EV was launched in India with 3-year/unlimited km warranty last year. Now, the electric SUV can be purchased with a free extended warranty option called ‘Wonder Warranty.’ There are two new warranty coverage options: 4-year/60,000 km and 5-year/50,000 km. New customers can choose from any of these three options while existing customers can switch to either of the new options at no cost.

The aforementioned warranty options are for the vehicle. The battery pack warranty for the Hyundai Kona EV in India is 8 year/1,60,000 km as standard. In select cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai a special fleet with a power converter to provide emergency charging support to customers was deployed right at launch. The after-sales support available for this model includes 24×7 emergency roadside assistance as well.

Seeing a strong future for Hyundai electric cars in India, a charging network across the nation is being established. Hyundai plans to have 50 dealerships in the country, spread across 30 locations, equipped with a 7.2 kW AC charger.

After delivering over 300 units of its first EV in 2019, Hyundai was looking at selling 500 copies of Hyundai Kona EV in India in 2020. While the COVID-19 outbreak has worsened the slump in auto sales, the increasing popularity for eco-friendly vehicles during this situation should actually boost the demand of the Kona.

EVs can be charged at home or any other privately-owned space. The visits to service stations for periodic maintenance are lower and less frequent with the bill at Rs.0 for the Kona’s 10,000 km service.

Hyundai Motor India MD & CEO S S Kim had earlier stated that though the increase in import duties of electric cars announced during this year’s budget has come as a surprise, Hyundai will continue to launch more products and will absorb the price increase and look to localize more components of the e-SUV. It has already started making a limited number of the Kona’s parts in India.
