Ather 450X, the quickest scooter of India, launched at Rs 99,000

Ather Energy has launched its updated Ather 450X electric scooter priced at Rs 99,000 ex-showroom Delhi. The 450X will be available in two Performance Packs – Plus and Pro, which can be availed at a monthly subscription Rs 1,699 for Plus and Rs 1,999 for Pro pack and if an upfront option is chosen, it cost Rs 1.35 lakh and Rs 1.45 lakh respectively (ex-showroom Delhi).

As reported earlier, the 450X gets better performance with a denser 2.9 kWh battery (up from 2.71 kWh) and 6 kW motor (up from 5.4 kW) that increases the torque output to 26 Nm (up by 6 Nm). This will enable the 450X to go from 0 to 40 km/h in 3.29 seconds and 0 to 60 km/h in 6.50 seconds, making it the quickest scooter in India, regardless of electric or thermal engine. With the Pro Pack, the riding range stands at 85 km, and 75 km for the Plus Pack.

The 450X is 10 kg lighter thanks to a redesigned frame, battery, wiring and electronics. It gets better tires, and is able to charge 50% faster than before.

The 450X is also lighter at 108 kg, dropping from 118 kg with a lighter frame, lighter battery and weight savings on electronics and wiring. The X gets an additional riding mode – ‘Warp’ mode apart from Eco, Ride and Sport. The 450X can be charged 50% faster with charging time improved from 1 km/min to 1.5 km/min.

The Ather 450X is equipped with regenerative braking, lower steering inertia and better performance tyres. The e-scooter also gets 4G and Bluetooth support for music and calls as standard now.  The scooter has switched to the Android open-source platform (from the Linux system) unlocking many more features that come with the software. So far, the 450 was available only in the white body colour, the 450X will be made available in three exterior colours – White, Grey and Green. The 450X is also being made available with two accessories – a smart helmet with built-in mic and headphones and a tyre pressure sensor.

The 450X has switched from the Linux platform to the Android open source platform. Deliveries of the scooter will commence in July.

Ather Energy is working to expand the availability of the 450X – from 2 cities in FY2020 to 10 cities in FY2021 and 24 cities by FY2022. The charging network will be increased from 200+ touchpoints to over 1000 touchpoints in FY2022. The Ather 450X will be made available in across 10 major cities in India beginning with Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad along with Bengaluru and Chennai.

The company has signed an MoU with Tamil Nadu government to build a new 400,000 sq.ft facility in Hosur. The new facility will be able to produce 100,000 vehicles per year.
