Benling India revealed its first high-speed scooter ‘Aura’ at the EV Expo 2019 in New Delhi. The vehicle will go on sale in the first quarter of 2020.
Benling India, which came to the market this year, currently manufactures and sells three low-speed models: Kriti, Icon and Falcon. The Aura, which is the flagship product, is the first model of the company in the high-speed segment.
The Aura is powered by a 2.5 kW BLDC electric motor that gets its juice from a detachable 72V/40Ah lithium-ion battery pack to deliver a range of 120 km (Eco mode) on a charge. It takes about 4 hours for the battery to fully charge and the vehicle has a top speed of 60 kmph and a generous ground clearance of 165 mm.
The scooter is well equipped with features such as remote keyless system, USB charging outlet, anti-theft alarm, smart parking assistance, start-stop button, and an additional rear-wheel integrated locking system. It comes in three colours: Black, Purple and Blue.
The standout feature of the Benling Aura is the Breakdown Smart Assistance System (BSAS). If any electrical component of the scooter (controller, battery or motor) suffers minimal damage causing the scooter to stop, one can use the BSAS button to restart the vehicle. The speed will however come down to 15-20 km/hour.
While the price has not been divulged, expect it to come in at around INR 85,000 (ex-showroom) when it goes on sale in the coming weeks undercutting the Bajaj Chetak.
Benling India manufactures its scooters at an assembly line in Manesar, Gurgaon, which has a capacity of about 3,000 vehicles a month. It plans to invest INR 100 crore to increase its capacity to 15,000 units a month by opening assembly lines in other parts of the country and begin exports.
