First Look Review: BMW i7 is still a solid choice with a 2026 facelift on the way

With its silent and smooth powertrain and brisk performance, the BMW i7 takes comfort and refinement in the 7 Series family to a whole new level. While an updated i7 facelift with Neue Klasse influences is expected to land in 2026, we had the opportunity to check out the flagship BMW EV’s current eDrive50 variant.

Exploring its design, features, and comfort, here’s what we found out:

Design

From the outside, the BMW i7 makes no attempt to hide its flagship status. The upright nose carries BMW’s huge kidney grille with Iconic Glow illumination, framed by ultra-slim crystal daytime running lights above recessed main beams.

The bonnet and bumper surfaces are clean, so your eye goes straight to the lighting signature and the sheer height of the front end, which gives the car huge presence in a mirror.

Along the sides, the i7 stretches out to classic limousine length, with flush glazing, simple shoulder lines and big wheel arches that emphasise its long wheelbase. The roofline flows gently into a broad C-pillar and slim LED tail lamps, so the rear looks tidy rather than fussy. Blue accents and the blanked-off grille quietly signal that this is the electric member of the 7 Series family.

Interior

Inside, the i7 feels like BMW designed the cabin around screen technology first. The curved display sweeps across the dashboard, sitting above the illuminated Interaction Bar that doubles as ambient light and a touch panel for key functions. Materials look and feel high-end, with open-pore wood, crystal-effect controls and abundant soft-touch materials all around before you even press the starter.

In the back, the i7’s cabin moves into lounge territory. The long-wheelbase body gives rear passengers generous legroom, and the optional Executive Lounge seat reclines deeply with an integrated leg rest. Rear occupants adjust climate, seating and blinds via door-mounted touchscreens.

A 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen lowers from the roof to stream films, TV shows or other on-demand content, supported by a Bowers & Wilkins audio system that can add shakers in the seatbacks.
