SUV coupes are relevant in the EV space, thanks partly to their aerodynamic profiles that help extract more driving range. The BMW iX2 is the brand’s only current offering in the electric SUV-coupe category, and we had a chance to explore it in a sporty M Edition trim recently.
Here are our thoughts about the all-electric compact EV:
Design
The BMW iX2 has a dynamic and sharp exterior that gives it quite a distinctive look in the brand’s line-up. The compact SUV-coupe features an upright front end, a sleek side profile, and a sporty rear.
At the front, the iX2 has an edgy kidney grille in a nearly hexagonal shape, flanked by sharp, swept-back headlamps in the signature four-eyed look. The kidney grille is a closed panel designed to reduce drag and features a repeating geometric motif rather than traditional slats. In the lower part, a hexagonal functional grille features triangular openings.

The sleek glasshouse and steeply raked D-pillars make the iX2 immediately recognisable from the sides. A Gurney-style spoiler, a concave surface below the rear spoiler, the technical-looking tail lamps with light guides pointing outwards in an arrow-like shape, and a diffuser-style apron complete the look.
Interior
The interior of the BMW iX2 has an elegant design with sporty details, including a driver-focused cockpit that features an angled central display and a sports steering wheel. The long centre armrest carries a floating look and integrates the gear selector and the physical controls to start/stop the vehicle, engage the parking brake, adjust the speaker volume, and change music.

BMW offers the iX2 with comfort features, such as a dual-zone automatic climate control system, steering wheel heating, and heated front seats. The company equips the EV with technologies like a head-up display, satellite navigation, four USB-C ports, and a wireless smartphone charger as well.
During our time in the rear seat, we noticed that the front seats of the iX2 add rear seatback cut-outs, rear air vents, USB ports, a centre armrest with cup holders, a rear window shape that brings in light, and a panoramic glass roof. However, knee room is tight for a six-footer, and headroom is limited with height-adjustable headrests offering limited relief.
