First Look Review: BYD Seal 6 is a value-focused electric family saloon

Launched in Southeast Asia last autumn, the BYD Seal 6 is a budget-friendly electric saloon positioned below the Seal sold in the UK and other European markets. Following Malaysia and Singapore last year, BYD brought the Seal 6 to Thailand last week.

We had a chance to check out the BYD Seal 6 in person at its Thai launch that took place at the 2026 Bangkok International Motor Show. Here are our key observations about the new electric saloon:

Design

The BYD Seal 6 has a fluidic exterior with several ā€œDragon-inspiredā€ design bits. Belonging to the Dynasty series, its design is reminiscent of the Atto 3 and other older BYDs and has a lower-cost impression compared to the brand’s more advanced Ocean series models.

At the front, the Seal 6 features sharp headlamps, a full-width silver garnish tipped by slim daytime running lights, and an A-shaped lower air intake. When viewed from the sides, the upper body appears sleek, while the lower section has a fuller, more rounded treatment. BYD has used semi-concealed door handles and regular 18-inch alloy wheels.

The Seal 6 has a full-width tail light with intricate graphics. Apart from a small EV badge on the boot lid, there are no obvious indicators of its electric powertrain anywhere on the exterior.

Save for the EV badge, the Seal 6 EV carries no distinct visual elements to highlight its pure electric powertrain.

Interior

The standard black and grey interior of the BYD Seal 6 has a clean, premium appearance. The horizontal dashboard features a full-width gloss black panel with a thin ambient light strip, slim AC vents, and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. The lower section of the dashboard houses a freestanding 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

A bridge-type centre console integrates the central AC vents and offers a number of conveniences, including two cupholders, a storage box, and two smartphone storage spaces, including one with inductive charging on the driver’s side. A bank of physical controls includes buttons for vehicle start/stop, hazard lights, wireless charging, and front defogger, along with a knurled rotary dial for audio functions and a knurled rocker switch for drive modes.

Experience in the BYD Seal 6

For a 5’7″ person like me, the BYD Seal 6 presents no issues with ingress or egress. The front seats offer around four inches of headroom, and outward visibility is clear in all directions. Cabin insulation is effective, with low noise levels.

The front seats provide good side bolstering, holding the body securely without feeling restrictive. Under-thigh support is adequate, and the backrest offers consistent support.

Material quality is consistent across the cabin. The centre console and door panels use plastics with a solid, well-finished feel. The upper and middle sections of the dashboard feature soft-touch padding, while the lower sections use harder plastics that still appear durable.

In the rear, there is enough space to stretch your legs. The flat floor improves comfort, especially for the middle occupant. Knee room is roughly eight inches behind a similarly sized driver. The seat base is angled upward, providing good under-thigh support, and the backrest is fixed but set at a comfortable angle.

Back and shoulder support are adequate across all seating positions. The middle seat is usable, with enough width to sit without significantly encroaching on the space of the outboard passengers. The seating position is slightly knees-up, but acceptable for short to medium journeys.

Rear amenities include a USB Type-A port, a USB Type-C port, rear AC vents, seatback pockets, bottle holders, and a fold-out centre armrest with integrated cup holders.

Specifications

The BYD Seal 6 measures 4,720 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height and has a 2,820 mm wheelbase. It offers 460 litres of boot space and also a 65-litre frunk.

The base variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds, and the top variant in 7.5 seconds. In the UK, BYD offers a slightly longer Seal 6 DM-i plug-in hybrid saloon under the Ocean series, and that is a renamed version of the Seal 06 DM-i sold in China. The company has not stated any plans to launch the all-electric Seal 6 in our market.
