Hero MotoCorp crossed the 100 million production milestone yesterday and announced its roadmap for the next five years.
Hero Motocorp has secured the trademark ‘Hero XTEC’ which it intends to use on vehicles. The media has not stopped speculating that the Hero XTEC could be the commercial name of its first electric motorcycle.
We came across a report on Telegraph India which reveals a bit more about the Quark 1. A company official talking to the newspaper has said that the segment-shifting vehicle will use a low voltage system. The company is considering all three options – slow charging, fast charging and swappable battery system for its powertrain. It must be noted that the Indian government at this point does not offer incentives (under FAME II) for vehicles with swappable batteries.
Pawan Munjal, Hero MotoCorp’s Chairman and Managing Editor, has invested $1 million in Ola Electric Mobility through the Pawan Munjal Family Trust. According to regulatory filings, the family trust has been allotted 18 preference shares, each at a premium of Rs 39,87,608 and face value of Rs 10.
It looks like Hero MotoCorp is preparing to fire on all cylinders in the EV segment. After the eMaestro electric scooter, we can now confirm that electric motorcycle is also in the works from Hero MotoCorp.
NDTV carandbike has reported that the eMaestro concept will be the first of many electric vehicles from Hero MotoCorp, and the project was confirmed to the media by Dr. Pawan Munjal, Chairman of Hero MotoCorp at the Hero World 2020.

A report on MoneyControl.com states that the battery-powered scooter will be made available in the next few months as revealed by one of the parts suppliers of the Duet E to the publication.
Hero MotoCorp’s first electric vehicle could very likely be a premium scooter, considering the recent trend of big manufacturers entering the segment. Bajaj and Ather have their own scooters positioned as premium products and TVS too will be unveiling a premium segment model
