First Look Review: Deepal E07 (Nevo E07) is a pickup-style twist on the SUV-coupe

Update: On A Possible Mazda Version added.

As good aerodynamics is compulsory in a world transitioning to electric powertrains, our guess is that SUV-coupes are going to be relevant for the foreseeable future. The Deepal E07 from Changan, which is sold as the “Multitruck” or the Nevo E07 in some markets, is an exception, though, integrating a third body style into the mix, the pickup truck.

We spent some time with the E07 recently, and here’s what we found during our experience.

Design

The E07 stands out in the EV market with its unique proportions. It features a low, wide, and upright front, a look amplified by rectangular headlamps. A thin light strip between the headlamps underlines the model’s sleek intent. In contrast, the bonnet features a prominent power dome.

The distinctive side profile makes the E07 immediately recognisable from a distance. A fast-sloping roofline, clean surfaces and flush door handles preserve the coupe-like silhouette, while raised roof rails signal that it has more utility than a typical SUV-coupe.

Triangular alloy wheels add a quirky, adventurous twist, contributing to the model’s bold character when viewed in the flesh.

We noticed that the low-set rear section has a drop-down tailgate and a glass lid that slides up, over the roof, to give a pickup-style cargo bed. This area is designed more for adventure gear such as surfboards, a compact foldable tent, foldable chairs, coolers, and trekking poles. The tailgate also features a glass panel, which can be slid down separately.

Interior

Once seated, the interior of the E07 feels minimalist, with a harmonious design across the two rows. Its clean dashboard and front door panels merge, creating a wraparound look.

The flat-bottomed steering wheel’s clever colour-coding masks its three-spoke design. In an unusual touch, the steering wheel features no branding whatsoever.

Customers can choose between black and orange interior colours, and from our experience, we can tell the latter lends the cabin quite a rich look.

The 15.4-inch central touchscreen has a swivelling function, which allows the driver and front passenger to tilt it to either side. Both front seats feature massage, memory, zero-gravity reclining, heating, and ventilation functions.

Steering wheel memory and heating functions, a 50-watt wireless smartphone charger, a dashcam, and an 18-speaker sound system are some additional highlights of the interior.

Specifications

The E07 measures 5,045 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,680 mm tall, riding on a 3,120 mm wheelbase. It offers a ground clearance of up to 223 mm; an air suspension lets the driver lower the ride height to as little as 133 mm for improved comfort in urban traffic and at motorway speeds.

The E07 is offered as a BEV and also an EREV, both in single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD variants.

E07 EV

The BEV packs 252 kW (338 bhp) and 365 Nm (269 lb.-ft.) of torque in the RWD variant and 440 kW (590 bhp) and 645 Nm (476 lb.-ft.) of torque in the AWD variant. An 89.98 kWh NMC battery pack delivers a WLTP range of 550 kilometres (342 miles) in the former and 510 kilometres (317 miles) in the latter.

E07 EREV

The EREV uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine as a generator and features a 39.05 kWh LFP battery pack as standard. It packs 231 kW (310 bhp) and 375 Nm (277 lb.-ft.) of torque in the RWD variant and 362 kW (485 bhp) and 637 Nm (470 lb.-ft.) of torque in the AWD variant.

In EV mode, the former covers a distance of 245 kilometres (152 miles) and the latter 230 kilometres (143 miles), both as per CLTC. They offer a combined range of 1,145 kilometres (711 miles) and 1,130 kilometres (702 miles), respectively, also as per the rating method in China.

Release Date

Changan’s global design head Klaus Zyciora has confirmed that both the Avatr and Nevo brands will be launched in Europe over the next two years.

While the full list of models that Changan has explored for the EU has not been revealed, the Nevo E07 was displayed at a company event in Mainz, Germany, in March 2025, and is expected to be released in this region in 2027.

Changan has yet to confirm plans to bring the E07 to the UK, but following our experience with the electric pickup truck, its design, proportions and utility-focused features would position it as a solid lifestyle offering. The company already offers the electrified pickup in Australia, meaning a right-hand drive version is already available.

On A Possible Mazda Version

Mazda may explore further use of Changan-Deepal EV hardware for future models. Speaking to Australia’s Carsales, Hiroshi Ozawa, General Manager of the Changan Mazda Automobile Technical Development Centre, said the Deepal E07 was an interesting vehicle and suggested Mazda could consider such a model if there was global demand.

Mazda and Changan already work together on EVs, including the Mazda EZ-6/Mazda 6e and Mazda EZ-60/CX-6e. These models use Changan-Deepal-related architecture with unique exterior designs. Wider use of this hardware could help Mazda expand its electric line-up in Europe and the UK while lowering fleet CO2 emissions, though Mazda has not confirmed plans for a Deepal E07-based model.
