First Look Review: Citroen Ami Dark Side struggles with its cuteness

Citroen has added a new special edition to its quadricycle lineup with the Ami Dark Side, a blacked-out version of the refreshed Ami two-seater. We got to spend some time with the Dark Side, and here’s what came to light during our experience!

The basics are the same in the Dark Side Edition edition. The Ami entered the market five years ago as an electric alternative to scooters and has become the second vehicle for many customers. The model targets drivers from age 14 in markets where regulations allow light quadricycles.

Citroen Ami Dark Side Edition spoiler
The rear spoiler uses a textured, carbon fibre-like finish to add visual interest, serving a purely aesthetic role rather than a functional aerodynamic one.

It offers enclosed seating for two, all-weather protection, and a limited top speed of 45 km/h (28 mph). The Ami delivers a quoted range of 75 km (47 miles). It has clocked nearly 85,000 units since launch, which is not bad considering its rudimentary nature.

Citroen Ami Dark Side Edition wheels
The checker-style wheels use a cube-inspired pattern to drift away from a plain look and give the Ami a more playful appearance.

The Dark Side edition keeps the 2025 redesign that introduced sharper surfacing, a more upright, expressive front end. Black Night, a deep matte black, covers the bodywork in deep matte black for the first time on Ami.

The moulded central capsule linking the lights uses a matte black finish with a thin white outline, and the Citroen emblem switches to white. White graphic elements generate contrast through stickers across the exterior. The wheel trims come from the Icy Colour Pack and use a checkerboard pattern of white cubes.

Matching cubic motifs are visible on a black-and-white sticker on the rear quarter panel and on dedicated graphics along the lower door area. A rear spoiler forms part of the Dark Side specification.

Inside, the Dark Side Colour Pack changes storage elements, not to black, but to a grey theme. The cabin adds three dashboard storage boxes, a bag hook ahead of the passenger seat, and light grey storage nets. Floor mats carry grey stitching to match the overall theme.

The glass-heavy cabin feels open and offers excellent outward visibility. Citroen should consider a single-seater version with a comfy driver seat.

Infotainment relies on a smartphone holder and app-based functions which are dependent on the owner’s device. My Ami Play centralises navigation, calls, and music through the driver’s phone, with control via the steering wheel using the Citroen Switch button. Charge status, range management, and mileage are also displayed via the app.

Citroen Ami Dark Side Edition seats
The seats suit short urban trips, and a 6 ft occupant has plenty of space, but the seat base feels narrow and the belt clip can press into the thigh.

Dark Side edition orders opened on 31 October 2025, with deliveries due to begin this month. Pricing starts at €8,890 including VAT. Availability spans France plus Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Austria, and Italy, with UK plans unannounced.
