In line with its target of electrifying its model range by 2025, Citroen revealed the e-Berlingo Electric for the European car markets in January 2021. The electric van has been joined by the Peugeot e-Partner and Vauxhall Combo-e Life siblings. Citroen launched the e-Berlingo Electric in the UK on 3 November 2021.
The design and interior of the Citroen e-Berlingo Electric are mostly carried over from the ICE sibling, with the only apparent differentiation arriving from the addition of blue badges and trim accents. It features an “ë” badge on the grille and on the tailgate, as well as “Anodised Blue” trim on the bumpers and side Airbumps.
Citroen e-Berlingo Electric Interior
While much of the interior is shared with the ICE sibling, the centre console of the e-Berlingo Electric features an e-Toggle switch instead of the gear lever. It offers Park, Reverse, Neutral, and Drive functions, along with a selector that lets the driver choose between the three driving modes- Eco, Normal, and Power. The M wheelbase version of the Citroen e-Berlingo Electric offers a five-seat layout along with a boot capacity of 775 litres with all seats in place or 3,500 litres with all passenger seats folded down. The ‘XL’ version offers seven seats and a boot space of 1,050-3,500 litres. Additionally, there are 26 different small storage compartments that provide an extra 167 litres of useable space.
The Citroen e-Berlingo Electric is available in ‘Feel’ (in M and XL versions) and ‘Flair XTR’ (in M version) are the available trim levels.
The Feel grade includes features like two sliding side doors, Airbumps, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear parking sensors, and a variety of ADAS technologies like Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Safety Brake, Driver Attention Alert, and Speed Limit Recognition and Recommendation.
The Flair XTR grade’s exterior differs with 17-inch ‘Spin’ alloy wheels, black roof bars and ORVMs, orange fog light surrounds and orange flourishes on the Airbump panels, and ‘XTR’ badging. Inside, the range-topping trim level packs a 10-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, and Citroen Connect Nav with real-time traffic updates and connected services. The Flair XTR trim offers greater convenience with a 180-degree reversing camera.
The Citroen e-Berlingo Electric, akin to its siblings from Peugeot and Vauxhall, is underpinned by PSA Groupe’s e-CMP platform that even forms the base for the Citroen e-C4, Peugeot e-2008, and Vauxhall Corsa-e. The electric van sports a 134 bhp/100 kW motor that draws juice from a 50kW battery. It offers a range of 174 miles on the WLTP cycle. The battery pack supports 100 kW rapid-charging to replenish the battery to 80% in less than 30 minutes.
A 7.4 kW on-board charger is standard in the e-Berlingo Electric, and it allows fully recharging the battery pack in 7 hours 30 minutes. As an option, customers can specify an 11 kW on-board charger that reduces that time to 4 hours 45 minutes.
The van has load volumes of up to 4.4 cubic metres and a maximum payload of up to 800 kg. To optimise range, the electric van’s powertrain can replenish the battery during braking and deceleration. To start the energy recovery system, drivers just need to press the “B” button on the central console.
The Citroen e-Berlingo Electric’s prices in the UK start at GBP 29,575 MRRP OTR (incl. Plug-in Car Grant of GBP 2,500). In addition to the government grant on the purchase, e-Berlingo Electric customers will benefit from a low Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax rate of just 1%** and an exemption from London Congestion and Ultra-Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) charges.
