With its Land Rover Defender-inspired design, the Jaecoo J6 EV already looks tough for a model of its size and price segment.
Recently, we had the opportunity to see just how far that rugged character can be pushed in a heavily customised example, in Asia. Here are some interesting observations we made, and this story is relevant to anyone who owns or is in the market to purchase the J6!
Design
The custom Jaecoo J6 EV features a special matte grey finish that is not part of the official paint palette. The matte finish aligns with the intended extra-rugged character and can help conceal minor dust and light scuffs picked up on the trail.

The headlamps have been given a dark treatment and pair well with the gloss black faux upper grille, a styling choice that’s good for an auto show, but may compromise their functional intent. The bumper is in the stock design, but equipped with a recovery hook, which is not offered in the showroom model.
On the sides, a vertically positioned decal on the front doors reads “OJ,” short for “Omoda & Jaecoo”. The flush-fitted door handles get a gloss black treatment to match the styling of the upper half of the body, as well as the Vage-designed multi-spoke wheels that have been wrapped in BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tyres.

Individual side steps enhance ingress and egress, while a ladder provides quick access to the roof rack, which supports auxiliary spot and flood lights.
At the rear, the combination lamps and fog lamps have been blacked out, and the bumper has been modified to include two recovery hooks and a pair of auxiliary lights.
Interior
The custom Jaecoo J6 EV had no visible interior modifications and retains the modern-tough theme of the standard model. It features an upright dashboard with vertical outer-end air vents, a three-spoke steering wheel with a chunky centre pad, vertical door handles with an integrated push-operated unlock button, and rubber grips on the centre console.

Six-way (driver)/four-way (passenger) front seats with massage and ventilation functions, a ventilated rear seat (outboard positions), a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a panoramic sunroof are some of the key interior features of the Jaecoo J6 EV.
The electric SUV comes with a host of active and passive safety features, including Lane Departure Prevention, Emergency Lane Keeping, Door Opening Warning, 360º HD camera system, and eight airbags.
Specifications
The custom Jaecoo J6 EV is technically similar to the standard model. It is in the top-of-the-line long-range 4WD configuration, which features two motors producing 205 kW (275 bhp) of total power and 385 Nm (284 lb.-ft.) of total torque, drawing supply from a 69.77 kWh LFP battery pack.

The J6 EV takes 6.5 seconds for a 0-62 mph sprint and achieves a top speed of 150 km/h (93 mph) in the long-range 4WD variant.
According to WLTP, it can travel 364 km (226 miles) on a single charge, which is average considering the adventurous purpose of the vehicle. Charging capability is also conservative by 2025 or 2026 standards, with the 69.77 kWh LFP battery pack supporting inputs of up to only 6.6 kW on AC and 80 kW on DC.
