The UK-bound Aion UT might be just a friendly-looking family hatchback, but if customised right, it could turn out to look quite sporty. Recently, we saw an officially modified version on display in Asia that supports that idea.
The customised Aion UT stands out with a special matte black shade that’s off the colour palette available for retail customers. Gloss black decals on the bonnet and tailgate and gloss black door handles add contrast against the one-off paint. The gloss black accents on the Matrix Cube fog lights, gloss black side mirror housing, and gloss black C-pillar appliqué come from the standard car.
A ‘Dare To Be Bold’ body kit is the main contributor to the sportier appearance of the customised GAC Aion UT. It includes a front lip spoiler, side skirts, and a rear diffuser, with the front and rear aero parts also carrying gloss black accents. The 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels wrapped in 215/55 R17 tyres have been carried over from the regular car and seem out of place in this exterior theme.
The interior of the customised GAC Aion UT does not have any styling or functional differences from the standard car. Barring gloss black accents around the AC vents and door openers, there’s barely anything sporty in here.
GAC equips the compact hatchback with features like a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with HERE Maps, Apple CarPlay, and 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, and 6-way (driver)/4-way (passenger) electrically adjustable front seats.
The customised Aion UT has no technical changes either, continuing with the same powertrain and battery pack as the standard model. It has a front-mounted motor that produces 150 kW (201 bhp) and 210 Nm (155 lb.-ft.) of torque and a 60 kWh LFP battery pack.
Charging from 30% to 80% SoC takes 24 minutes, and on a full charge, the EV offers a range of up to 311 miles. It accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 7.3 seconds and achieves a top speed of 99 mph. Specifications for the UK have not been announced, but the company is targeting 268 miles of WLTP range for the British market.
The customised Aion UT measures 4,270 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,575 mm in height and has a 2,750 mm wheelbase. It offers 440 litres of boot space, expandable to 1,660 litres by folding its 60:40-split rear seat.

GAC has confirmed plans to launch the Aion UT in the UK, along with the Aion V compact SUV. The company has appointed Jameel Motors as its local distributor and expects to commence sales of the electric hatchback in the second half of next year. The Aion UT will compete with the likes of MG4 EV, Leapmotor B05, and Ora Good Cat.
