eMatrixmile & HPCL-backed Magenta to install 10,000 ‘QYK POD’ EV charging stations

eMatrixmile India Limited and Magenta EV Solutions have collaborated for the installation of 10,000 EV charging stations in India. The companies will install chargers in Mumbai and Maharashtra first, and then scale up to a national level.

eMatrixmile has a base in Mumbai and aims to offer sustainable and on-demand transport solutions. The company says that it will have a fleet of electric scooters, electric auto rickshaws and electric bicycles available for eco-friendly on-demand transport in more than 50 cities by next year.

Magenta deals in EV charging technology and has the backing of well-known Indian and global companies like Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Shell and Microsoft. Magenta has worked on EV chargers, with products like a streetlamp integrated EV charger called ChargeGrid Flare and ChargeGrid Series for public and private use.

Private companies employ a special branding for their charging stations/network, and in this case, it’s called QYK POD. QYK POD chargers have a sleek design and are finished entirely in black. They seem to feature six transparent LED indicators, stacked vertically in packs of three. The voltage of these chargers and the charging capacity they allow hasn’t been disclosed, and the costing (price per kWh) is to be ascertained.

Charging stations in Europe and North America may increasingly adopt chargers with DC output voltage of up to 800 volts and DC output power rating of up to 350 kW in 2021. In India, next year should bring widespread availability of fast chargers with DC output voltage of up to 400 volts and DC output power rating of up to 50 kW. Tata Power plans to install 700 EV charging stations called Tata Power EZ Charge by March 2021.
