Hero Electric announces cash discount for its electric scooters

Hero Electric has announced an online sales scheme that offers customers an instant cash discount of up to Rs 5,000 and existing customers will get an additional Rs 1,000.

The sales scheme is available online for all its electric scooters except the Flash lead-acid low speed model, from April 17th to May 15th 2020. Customers can book any model with a booking amount of Rs 2,999, which is non-refundable except if the nationwide lockdown is extended beyond June. Hero Electric’s current range of electric scooters includes Nyx, Flash, Optima, Dash, Photon and extended range variants of Optima and Nyx. The company’s Glyde and e-Cycle models that are also powered by lithium-ion batteries also get a cash discount of Rs 3,000.

Mr. Sohinder Gill, CEO, Hero Electric has said that customers will be inclined to cleaner transportation now that the absence of vehicles on the roads for the past few weeks have had a pleasing effect on the environment and showed a marked improvement in air quality. He believes that the online scheme is a sweetener to encourage the public to adopt EVs and echoes the company’s mission of ‘No Emission’ transportation.

Hero Electric, which has a customer base of 2.5 lakh, is doubling its capacity and is planning to expand the 600 touchpoints across the country to 800 by the end of 2020. The country’s largest electric two-wheeler company has aggressive plans to increase its production capacity of electric scooters to 5 lakh units annually in the next three years.

Hero Electric’s Managing Director, Naveen Munjal, recently confirmed that the company will be looking at the mass segment for the time being and will be putting launch plans of premium models on hold. The premium products include the high-speed models AE-47 electric motorcycle and the AE-3 ‘trike’ that were showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. While many expected the AE-47 to be launched in late 2020 or early 2021 and the company also had such plans, now the market scenario has made Hero Electric shift strategies as it believes that customers wouldn’t be spending on luxury and lifestyle.
