10 things you should know about the Hero Electric AE 47 motorcycle

Hero Electric unveiled a new range of electric two-wheelers across segments that included an electric motorcycle, electric scooter and electric trike. The AE 47 is a premium electric motorcycle that will be a first for the company.

Here are 10 things that you need to know about Hero’s electric motorcycle, the Hero Electric AE 47.

1. Body Design

The motorcycle bears a ‘street-fighter’ type design, featuring wide handlebars, muscular tank shrouds, LED lighting and a split-seat. It also gets a dual-tone red & black colour to lend it a sporty appearance.

2. Braking system

The AE 47 features dual disc brakes with a single 290 mm disc up front and 215 mm disc at the rear. It has a combined braking system.

3. Suspension system

The suspension duties are carried out by conventional parts. The motorcycle carries an inverted front fork (that should help the handling and provide more feedback to the rider) and a mono-shock at the rear.

4. Tires

The bike features a petal disc at the front. Not only does the design look snazzier, but it is lighter and cools faster. Going by what we saw at the stall, it can be said that the front-end uses a 100-section rubber while a 130-section does duty at the rear.

5. Instrument cluster

The AE 47 electric motorcycle sports a fully digital instrument cluster that can display all the necessary information including vehicle speed, engine speed, time, range, etc.

6. Battery capacity, motor outputs & top speed

The AE 47 is powered by a lightweight portable lithium-ion 48V/3.5 kWh battery and a 4 kW (5.36 hp) motor. The bike has a top speed of 85 km/h and can go from 0 to 60 km/h in 9 seconds.

7. Range

The AE 47 offers a range of 85 km/charge in Power mode, 160 km/charge in Eco mode and the battery can be charged in 4 hours through a household power outlet.

8. Features & Branding

A smartphone app lets you to track the motorcycle real-time and offers features like cruise control, geo-fencing, GPS, Keyless access, reverse assist, SIM and Bluetooth connectivity, twin ride modes (explained above) and USB charger. The company has confirmed that it would not be carrying over the ‘AE 47’ brand name on the production model.

9. Hero Electric AE 47 Price

Prices haven’t been revealed yet. Hero Electric is expected to launch the motorcycle between Rs 1.25 to Rs 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom) to challenge the Revolt RV400.

10. Hero Electric AE 47 Launch date & Availability

Sohinder Singh Gill, CEO, Hero Electric India has confirmed that since the company already has three launches lined up for this year, it will be difficult to fit in the motorcycle in 2020. Hence we can expect the AE 47 to be launched in early 2021. Gill also confirmed that the motorcycle will not be available in a pan-India basis. The company plans to send the bike to 40-50 dealers and target passionate motorcyclists.
