Milltek Design displayed a prototype wide-body kit for the Alpine A290 at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where we got to see the components up close.
Inspired by the Renault 5 Maxi rally car, the package gives the electric hot hatch a wider and more aggressive appearance, and attracted plenty of eyeballs.
Speaking to EVW at Goodwood, Milltek told us that it had designed and manufactured the kit in-house. The main panels are made from formed ABS and use separate inner and outer skins. This allows them to attach to the Alpine’s original mounting points around the wheelarches.
Milltek also told us that the panels can be removed without permanently changing the vehicle. This could make the kit suitable for customers leasing an A290, wherever such modifications are permitted, as the car can be returned to its standard condition at the end of the agreement.
Workshop installation is recommended, as minor adjustments may be required to obtain the correct fit.
The package includes enlarged front and rear wheelarches, additional front bumper sections and covers extending across part of the rear doors. Milltek showed us an internal duct within the door section that is designed to channel air through the bodywork towards the rear wheelarch.
At the front, the inner and outer wing sections attach to the A290’s existing wheelarch mounting areas. Milltek has also included a split between the body kit and the front bumper, allowing the standard bumper to be removed for servicing without dismantling the complete package.
The Goodwood prototype featured replacement lighting units within the A290’s front bumper. Milltek told us that it considered the standard daytime running lights underused, so it developed a brighter arrangement covering the upper and lower sections.
The new units connect to the standard wiring and activate when the car is switched on. Milltek appears to be also considering versions with low-beam and high-beam functions.
Another challenge involved the charging flap within the widened front wing. The prototype uses a special mechanism that moves the flap outwards before it opens, preventing it from catching against the extended bodywork.
Aluminium lower side-skirt trims were also fitted to the show car. These can be coated to match the vehicle and are expected to be offered separately. A large three-piece rear spoiler completes the package.
Milltek told us that the prototype spoiler was made from glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) and bolts directly to the boot lid. It reuses original components, including the upper brake light, and can also fit the Renault 5 without modification.
Milltek is developing a related kit for the regular Renault 5. Most parts will retain the same basic design, although the door and front bumper sections require different trimming. The replacement daytime running lights are exclusive to the Alpine A290.
Milltek lists the basic body kit at £2,000 plus VAT. At Goodwood, we understood that the wider package of wings, bumper sections and door parts was being targeted at around £3,000. The rear spoiler could cost approximately £1,500-£1,800 separately, though final pricing has not been officially announced for these additional components.
