Here’s the Kelvinator Avanti of 2020 – 100% Electric & Italian

Italian EV-only company’s Garelli’s line-up now includes a new Garelli Ciclone E4. Don’t let the name fool you into thinking this is record-setting superbike. The updated electric moped is twice more powerful and goes 110 km on a full charge.

Back in the 1980s, a Garelli moped was sold in India. It was called Kelvinator Avanti Garelli and came with a 50 cc two-stroke engine. Expo Machinery Limited, a 100% Kelvinator of India subsidiary, marketed this model. In Europe, Garelli saw its resurrection just back in 2018.

New Garelli Ciclone E4 Urban
The new Garelli Ciclone E4 is available in three versions: Urban (pictured), Soul (above) and Cross (below).

The 2020 Garelli Ciclone E4 employs a hub-mounted motor that generates 4 KW of power and 160 Nm of torque. The power of the old model’s motor was 2 kW. The old model had a top speed of 45 km/h. The new motor gets its juice from a 72-volt, 35 Ah or 2.5 kWh Lithium-ion battery. This battery (sourced from LG) weighs 13 kg and is removable.

The new Garelli Ciclone E4 can be ridden in three modes: Eco, Tour and Sport. The Eco mode restricts the top speed to 35 km/h and allows achieving the maximum range – 110 km. The Tour mode allows a slightly higher top speed of 45 km/h, but the range reduces to 100 km in it. The Sport mode unlocks the highest top speed – 70 km/h. Riding in the Sport mode minimizes the range to 70 km.

Garelli promises a battery life of 800 charge cycles in the case of the new Ciclone E4. Fully charging the battery takes 6-8 hours, although fast-charger support is available, to reduce that time to 3-4 hours. Part-LCD speedometer, LED headlamp, 13-inch alloy wheels and 220 mm disc brakes are the key features of the electric moped.
