New Nissan electric SUV slotted above Ariya in the works

The Nissan Ariya, a VW ID.4 rival, isn’t where the Nissan electric SUV lineup concludes. Helen Perry, Head of Electric Passenger Cars & Infrastructure, Nissan, has indicated that a bigger Nissan electric SUV is also planned.

The Nissan Ariya is a C-SUV based on the CMF-EV platform that has been developed especially for pure electric vehicles. A new report on autocar.co.uk has Perry stating that Nissan will consider stretching this platform for a mid-size SUV (D-SUV). The launch timeline of the Nissan mid-size electric SUV positioned above the Ariya will depend on the readiness of the market.

The new Nissan electric SUV Perry hints could be a three-row seating model with an option to specify six individual seats for a comfortable journey. Then, it could be an alternative to the production VW ID. Roomzz (tentatively the VW ID.6) that will go on sale in 2021, with China as its first market. The British publication reporting the development has created a rendering representing it as a Nissan X-Trail-sized model with a softer design. The picture is viewable in the source link.

By the end of FY2023 (April 2022-March 2023), Nissan expects to sell more than 1 million EVs and electric-motor-driven vehicles, including e-Power models. The next EV debut following the Ariya is the production version of the Nissan IMk concept that would proceed to replace the Nissan Dayz. In Japan, the company wants to increase the electrification ratio to 60% of sales, with two new EVs (including the Nissan Ariya) and four more e-Power vehicles.

The Nissan Ariya will go on sale in Japan in mid-2021. It is established that the Nissan Ariya price will start at around JPY 5 million (INR 35,41,325.44). The Nissan Ariya range (WLTC, Japan), depending on the configuration, is anywhere between 450-580 km.
