The Omoda 5 EV, launched in the UK in August 2024, received a facelift internationally in October 2025. Last month, we got a close look at the new version (global-spec vehicle) in person and spent time understanding its key aspects, such as styling, comfort, and convenience, in detail. Here’s what we found from our experience:
Design

The new Omoda 5 EV has a sharper exterior with noticeable changes over the old model that is still sold in the UK. Most of these design revisions are concentrated at the front.
The 5 EV still features a split headlamp setup, but with newly designed daytime running lights and main lights. The DRLs feature a slightly larger, curvier housing that starts almost at the corners and sweeps way back. New, triangular cutouts in the lower part of the bumper integrate the main lights.

The charging port is still located at the front, but now on the left side and secured by a new, trapezoidal flap. The block-lettered brand inscription ahead of the leading edge of the bonnet, which is a newly designed shorter panel, is larger and looks more prominent.
At the rear, the 5 EV now features darkened tail lamps and a new gloss black tailgate applique connecting them. The roof spoiler has a simpler design without any openings at the extreme ends, and the tailgate looks cleaner as the license plate has been relocated to the bumper.
Interior

The interior of the new Omoda 5 EV has been almost entirely redesigned and looks even more minimalist. The dashboard has a slimmer profile, featuring a flatter top section and a concave middle section. It subtly merges into the front door panels for a more harmonious appearance.
Instead of the twin 12.3-inch dashboard displays, there are two separate panels. The infotainment system has a 15.6-inch touchscreen, while the instrument cluster has an 8.8-inch screen. The centre AC vents had to be repositioned to a lower height to make room for the larger touchscreen, and they now have a new, hexagonal frame.
The centre console features a new design with an offset arm connecting to the dashboard, as well as two hexagonal cupholders and a split-opening lid for the storage box. The panel of physical controls, including AC, defogger, 360ยบ camera system, hazard warning, and vehicle on/off buttons, and a drive mode toggle switch, has been repositioned to be closer and more easily accessible to the driver.
Experience in the Omoda 5 EV

At 5’7″, getting in and out of the Omoda 5 EV is straightforward. Outside visibility remains clear across all angles, with no major evident blind spots.
The front seats provide roughly five inches of headroom. Under-thigh support is good, while back and shoulder support feel adequate for regular use. The centre armrest sits relatively high, which improves comfort during longer drives.

The cabin uses metal-look trim inserts on the centre console, which are made of plastic. Soft-touch padding is applied on the upper dashboard and door panels, paired with metal-look accents that integrate subtle ambient lighting.
Buttons and switches on the centre console offer a consistent and solid tactile response. The new, two-spoke steering wheel features push buttons and thumb wheels, making controls easy to operate. The presence of physical switches for the sunroof adds to usability.
With the front seat set for my height, rear seat space feels more constrained. Headroom is limited to about three inches. The seatback is not reclinable, but the fixed angle is acceptable, allowing a reasonably natural seating posture. Legroom is tight, with feet restricted by the raised floor section beneath the front seats.

Knee room is also limited, at around two inches, which reduces comfort for taller occupants. Back support and shoulder support in the rear are sufficient.
The rear floor is not completely flat, with a slight central hump. The middle position of the seat is manageable for shorter occupants, but taller passengers may find it uncomfortable. Rear amenities include two charging ports, one USB Type-A and one USB Type-C, along with two AC vents, seatback pockets, bottle holders, and coat hooks. A fold-out centre armrest with cupholders is also provided.
Specifications

The new Omoda 5 EV measures 4,545 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,588 mm in height, and has a 2,630 mm wheelbase. It has a single motor producing 155 kW (208 bhp) and 288 Nm (212 lb.-ft.) of torque, mounted on the front axle.
A 50.6 kWh LFP battery pack that can be charged at up to 6.6 kW (AC)/110 kW (DC) powers the motor. It delivers a range of 422 kilometres (262 miles), as per NEDC. The WLTP rating for the UK should likely be lower.

Release Date
The refreshed Omoda 5 EV will likely be launched in the UK this summer, with prices starting at around GBP 33,000.
