Renault electric SUV-coupe with 500 km range debuts this month

Groupe Renault has revealed a new teaser that could be of the upcoming Renault electric SUV-coupe. A point worth noting is that the front light design doesn’t have a resemblance of the Renault Morphoz concept but the colour coding matches the interior of the concept.

Along with the Dacia Spring (European Renault Kwid EV), a Renault electric SUV-coupe will debut at the Renault EWays digital event this month, French publication Challenges.fr said this month. The SUV-coupe will debut on 15th of October, the first day of the event, it added.

Recent reports have said that Groupe Renault is planning two Renault electric SUVs and indicated at least one of them will fall in the C-segment. Following the Nissan Ariya’s debut in July, it was obvious that there would be a Renault derivative (and perhaps a Mitsubishi SUV too). Now, the French publication reports that the C-Segment Renault electric SUV will have coupe styling and go on sale in 2021.

According to the Challenges report, the Renault electric SUV-coupe is to ride on the CMF-EV dedicated BEV platform and is to be manufactured at the Douai plant in France. The company has already confirmed that it plans to manufacture electric vehicles at this factory from 2021, where it builds the Renault Espace, Renault Talisman and Renault Scenic.

Unlike the Nissan Ariya, the Renault electric SUV coupe would be targeted squarely at the European market. The Nissan Ariya is likely to be short in supply initially, with only 30,000 units planned for sale in the first year, as per a reuters.com report. Prospective Nissan Ariya customers in Europe who are unable to buy one due to that reason would find a close alternative in this Renault EV SUV-coupe. The French model also should come with 63 kWh and 87 kWh battery pack options, single/dual motor options with up to 290 kW (394 PS) and 600 Nm, and up to approximately 500 km WLTP range.

The first Renault electric car in India should be a Renault Kwid derivative, the Renault XBA EV, likely to arrive sometime in the calendar year 2022.
