Rivian opens up job opportunities in Germany & Netherlands

Ahead of the R1T pickup deliveries slated to begin in September in the launch market of the United States, Rivian has opened up job opportunities across three countries in the European continent, confirming expansion.

It was already known that the American EV startup has been wanting to expand into Europe for a while. In July, a Sky News report had outlined this, saying Rivian was in talks with the UK to build a factory, an investment that could be well worth over GBP 1 billion. Now, a report from Teslarati dated August 24 brings to light that Rivian is offering jobs in Germany and Netherlands.

Rivian jobs in Europe

The job posting in Germany is that of a Technician for the Launch Team. This position helps with pre-production builds, supports new service centres and helps build a team that can properly service new vehicles that Rivian may launch in the European market.

The Netherlands, on the other hand, has four job postings. The Delivery and Field Operations position is for an Enterprise Launch Program Manager. The other three positions are for service taking care of Collision Repair and Field Service Planning and Compliance.

Project Tera

While Rivian is looking at expanding its footprint into Europe, the company is also looking for a second factory in the U.S. A Reuters report says that while Rivian didn’t provide possible locations for the second unit, it confirmed that it is exploring locations. Dubbed “Project Tera,” it includes a 50 gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery cell production plant. The company is reportedly looking for a 2,000-acre site for the next production facility.

The Teslarati report further stated that it is still uncertain if the R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV will come to the European market. RIvian CEO RJ Scaringe said that the company is currently eyeing smaller vehicles for the old continent and China, meaning that Rivian could be secretly working on the R2S and R3S SUVs suitable for the expansion, as reported by MotorTrend in February 2021.
