The MG Marvel R is a rebadged Roewe Marvel R, a 5G-enabled electric SUV from China. With different styling and MG badges, the Marvel R becomes the first model in its carmaker’s lineup to feature a 5G smart cockpit.
Here’s what you need to know about the e-SUV that hits the European market later this year, starting with Norway during Autumn –
Design
While much of the MG Marvel R is the same as the Roewe donor, it gets a revised front- and rear-fascia that looks sharper and more aerodynamic. The front-end gets a LED right bar that runs across the width of the vehicles while the headlamps have now found a new home on the front bumper. The side profile remains largely similar except for the new set of wheels. The rear-end gets an LED light bar that connects the tail lamps for a techy look.
With an overall length of 4674 mm, a width of 1919 mm, and a height of 1618 mm, the MG Marvel R is much larger than, say, a Hyundai Kona EV. Even the wheelbase, at 2800 mm, is 200 mm longer than the Hyundai.
Interior
The MG Marvel R offers a rather spacious cabin with a dual-tone color theme. Taking a center stage on the dashboard is a huge 19.4-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that supports 5G connectivity. The e-SUV even offers a panoramic sunroof, multi-zone automatic climate control with heat pump, 3-spoke multi-function flat-bottom steering wheel, and MG Pilot advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Overall, the cabin has a clean design that looks sufficiently elegant. The Marvel R offers a boot space of 357-litre that can be 1,396 liters. The two wheel-drive versions even offers a front trunk with a storage capacity of 150 liters.
Specifications
The MG Marvel R is available in two variants – rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Both versions will feature two motors at the rear, but the all-wheel drive model benefits from an additional motor at the front. The tri-motor configuration will result in a net output of 212 kW/284 hp & 665Nm, enough to propel this e-SUV from 0-62 mph in a claimed 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 124 mph. Furthermore, the Marvel R is claimed to offer a driving range of 249 miles (400 km) in the WLTP cycle, but the battery specs are yet to be disclosed. That said, the Roewe Marvel R on which the MG version is based on offers a 69.9 kWh battery capacity.
