The first EV charging station from the partnership between MG (India) and Tata Power is now open. It is located in Nagpur and offers a 50 kW DC fast charger that allows charging the MG ZS EV from 0-80% in 50 minutes. Nagpur is one of the 10 new cities that were announced to get the MG ZS EV earlier this month.
The new Tata Power EV charging station inaugurated along with MG in Nagpur is a public facility available to all EVs compatible with CCS/CHAdeMO fast-charging standards. MG has a total of 10 EV charging stations with 50 kW DC fast-charger, spread across dealerships in five cities – New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. Nagpur is the sixth city to get the company’s ‘Superfast Charging Station’.
Tata Power calls its EV charging station network ‘EZ Charge’ and it has more than 200 EZ Charge EV charging points, located in 24 cities. It plans to have a total of 700 EZ Charge EV charging stations by March 2021.
MG-Tata Power partnership
MG Motor India had announced the signing of an MoU with Tata Power to integrate Superfast chargers across select MG car dealerships in June. As per the agreement, Tata Power will build an unspecified number of 50 kW Superfast chargers to offer end-to-end charging solutions for MG EV owners.
This association will not only benefit MG ZS EV owners but also other automobiles that support CCS / CHAdeMO charging standards. These 50 kW charging hubs will serve as a platform for new EV customers through MG’s EV expansion plans.
Rajeev Chaba, President & MD, MG Motor India believes to further strengthen the company’s commitment to India, they are aiming to provide customers with a robust charging ecosystem to promote the adoption of cleaner and greener mobility solutions. With a partner like Tata Power, a renowned major in the field of power, they are confident that they will create a distinct synergy together.
Mr Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power Company Limited, says he’s delighted to associate with MG Motor India as an end-to-end EV charging partner and also work on the second life of battery usage in future.
Tata Power is India’s largest integrated power company and a leading player in the EV charging space which aims to provide customers with a seamless charging experience. Tata Power is confident that this partnership with MG Motor will further boost our country’s ability to welcome the electrified range of vehicles that MG Motor has to offer. Currently MG has the ZS EV, and will introduce two new models – a 500 km variant of the MG ZS EV and a low-cost electric vehicle, in 2022.
Partnerships like these will bring in a new wave of EV customers thanks to the support of these growing charging networks and the phased diminishing of range anxiety. We expect more such proposals for charging stations which would further accelerate India’s progress to an all-electric future.
