All 1,500 units of the VW ID.3 allocated for UK sold in no time, says report

It seems that the Volkswagen ID.3 will start reaching the customers as early as 28 March, according to Alan Day Group, a network of three UK dealerships, reported by electrek. This news contradicts earlier reports that suggested the ID.3 will be delayed until August due to a software issue.

Price for the ID.3 is expected to start from €30,000 and 1,500 units have been allocated to the UK, all of which have already been accounted for. Volkswagen has reported that it had received a total of 30,000 per-orders for the ID.3 in Europe.

To sell 1,500 from a range that hasn’t even hit the market yet is unprecedented and suggests we are on the cusp of an electric vehicle revolution. The ID.3 is being produced with an incomplete software structure. While production started in November 2019 at the German factory in Zwickau, the cars are stored in specially rented spaces and Volkswagen will get service teams with mobile stations to update the software on all the cars before commencing deliveries. The new software architecture will first be deployed to the first 10,000 units of ID.3. In total, the software will be updated in over 20,000 units.

The ID.3 will be a five-seater in two battery versions: 45 kWh and 58 kWh, while the 77 kWh battery will be a four-seater. The 45 kWh, 58 kWh and 77 kWh versions return a range of 320 km, 420 km and 550 km respectively.

ID.3 1st special edition with three equipment lines

At the launch, the ID.3 will have a special edition called the ID.3 1st that will be available in limited units based on the mid-range (58 kWh) variant. With a 100 kW DC charger, the battery can be charged to cover a range of 290 km within 30 minutes. The ID.3 1st is driven by an electric motor at the rear axle that generates 150 kW and 310 Nm of torque, enabling the car to reach a top speed of 160 km/h. The ID.3 1st will be offered in three configurations – Basic, Plus and Max.

The ID.3 will be available in three battery sizes – 45 kWh, 58 kWh and 77 kWh. The car offers a range of up to 330 km with the smaller battery variant (45 kWh), between 300 and 420 km with the mid-range battery variant (58 kWh) and between 390 and 550 km with the largest battery variant (77 kWh).

The ID.3 1st basic version gets a navigation system, a DAB+ digital radio, seat heating and steering wheel heating, armrests at the front, a Mode 2 charging cable and 18-inch light-alloy wheels.

The ID.3 1st Plus will be equipped with matrix LED headlights, matrix sidelights, brake lights, turn indicators and taillight clusters, rearview camera system, Adaptive Cruise Control, Kessy Advanced keyless access locking and the starting system, design seats, ambient lighting and 19-inch light-alloy wheels.

The ID.3 1st Max gets augmented reality (AR) head-up display, the Beats sound system, a large panorama sliding/tilting glass roof, 20-inch light-alloy wheels, lane-keeping system with Emergency Assist, lane change system, comfort telephony featuring contactless high-voltage battery charging, comfort seats and large 20-inch light-alloy wheels.
