2022 Porsche Taycan to launch in the U.S. in late-2021

In the United States, Porsche has announced upgrades for the Taycan family. The 2022 model year Taycan as well as the Taycan Cross Turismo come with some fairly significant updates including new colors, drivetrain improvements, interior tech as well as an optional remote park assist feature.

According to a press release issued by the company on August 24, the 2022 Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo that are scheduled to arrive towards the end of 2021 have been updated with a number of features that make the EV more convenient for the customers.

Technological enhancements

Porsche has worked on optimising the Taycan’s drivetrain bringing in a feature called Turbo Charging Planner. This allows for the high-voltage battery to get to a slightly higher temperature than before allowing fast charging to kick in earlier and at a higher charge level. What this means for the customer is that the Taycan be charged faster than before. Porsche has also said that the heat from the other electrical components is used to a greater degree to regulate battery temperature. The company is expected to release the specifications in the coming months which is when we can quantify improvements.

Android Auto integration in the 2022 Porsche Taycan

While Apple CarPlay was on offer ever since 2019, the sixth-generation Porsche Communication Management System did not have Android support. The company has now integrated Google’s software into the PCM allowing customers using android smartphones to connect to their Taycan via the USB-C port. This also allows for select android functions to work through the PCM, or if they choose, using Google Assistant voice commands.

Remote Park Assist

Available as an optional package, the remote park assist functionality allows users to park their cars using their smartphone. The user has to monitor the process however by standing close by and holding down on a button. To start the process, the Taycan will first identify a parking space using the car’s onboard cameras and sensors after which the user needs to connect to the Porsche Connect app and then exit the vehicle.

The car’s system then takes over control of the steering wheel as well as the forward and reverse movements and continues to park itself. If the button on the phone is released, the car stops movement entirely even if it isn’t parked into the space. The Remote Park Assist works for both parallel as well as perpendicular parking spaces.

More colors

Finally, Porsche has also decided to bring back yesteryear’s colors, paint schemes that achieved cult status in the ’90s. As part of the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur personalisation strategy, Porsche is offering two new options: Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus in addition to the already extensive 17 standard options. The Paint to Sample option offers the customer 65 different colors to choose from including favourites like Rubystar and Acid Green. The Paint to Sample Plus option, on the other hand, allows the customer complete freedom in choose the paint option even so far as allowing them to match the paint scheme to their favourite accessory.
