MG Marvel X purely a technology demonstrator, no launch plans for India

MG Motor has unveiled the MG Marvel X (Roewe Marvel X) at the Auto Expo 2020 as a fusion of electric, internet and autonomous technologies in cars. There were a lot of other models, including six-seater MG Hector, Maxus D90, E200 and Roewe Vision-i that were displayed at the motor show.

At present, SAIC Motor has only one brand in India that is MG. The Chinese automotive manufacturer does and it will continue launching the rebadged cars from different brands.

Based on the Roewe Vision E-Concept, the Roewe Marvel X, positioned in the prestige segment between the RX5 and RX8, is an all-electric SUV, powered by two motors and a 52.5 kWh battery. The SUV comes in two drive versions – all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. With AC charger, the Roewe Marvel X battery gets 100% charged in around 8.5 hours, however, with DC charger, the battery is charged 80% in 40 minutes. It has a wheelbase of 2,800 mm, a length of 4,678 mm, width of 1,919 mm and a height of 1,618 mm.

Talking of the Roewe Marvel X specs, in rear-wheel drive, the motors produce a peak power of 183hp and 410 Nm torque. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and has a maximum range (NEDC) of 403 km. In the all-wheel-drive version, the motors crank out a peak power of 296 hp and 665 Nm torque. The car’s acceleration time comes to 4.8 seconds; however, the range (NEDC) is 370 km.

The biggest feature on the Marvel X is that it has Level 3 autonomous drive and the concept showcases the brand’s prowess in self-drive, connected and electric car technologies. The Marvel X is technologically the most superior product in the SAIC portfolio that is in mass production.

The Roewe Marvel X gets premium safety features, such as IP67 waterproof battery, six high voltage circuit safety management program and anti-intrusion protection. According to SAIC, the Roewe Marvel X is a five-star safety rated car. Other impressive features include a cruise control system, intelligent parking assist, real-time driving assistance system, forward collision alarm and automatic emergency braking.

MG does not plan to launch the Marvel X in India and brings down the vehicle as a technology demonstrator. The vehicle is manufactured only in LHD and there is no plan for an RHD, EVW learns.
