The price of the Renault Twingo Z.E. is out in Germany, and it’s an exorbitant EUR 24,165.04, which converts to INR 21 lakh (INR 20,97,936.28). It can be purchased only as a ‘Vibes’ special edition initially meaning an addition of EUR 1,501.17 (INR 1,30,327.08) to the price tag, which then increases to EUR 25,666.21 (INR 22,28,263.35). Thankfully the subsidies shave off a whopping EUR 10,000 (INR 8,68,170.00) from the price.
Renault says that it will launch cheaper configurations of the Twingo Z.E. in Germany in Q4 2020 (October-December 2020) and start selling them in Spring 2021.
The Twingo Z.E. is the seventh all-electric vehicle from Renault, powered by a 22 kWh lithium-ion battery developed in partnership with LG Chem. In a first for Renault Z.E. range, the battery gets a water-cooled system. The motor, reduction gear and charger are based on the Renault Zoe, and the Twingo can reach a top speed of 135 km/h. Peak power and torque are rated at 81 hp and 160 Nm. The range as per the WLTP test cycle is 190 km (combined)/270 km (city).
With a 2.3 kW home charger, it will take the Twingo Z.E. 13 hours and 30 minutes to be charged completely. The charging time can be reduced to 8 hours with a 3.7 kW charger and 4 hours with a 7.4 kW Wallbox unit. The Twingo can also be charged to 80 per cent in 63 minutes using a 22 kW charging point.
On the outside, Renault Twingo Electric gets blue highlights on the grille, wheels and the sides, with Z.E. badges on the B-pillar, rear hatch and door sills. Inside, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support and a semi-digital instrument cluster make up the talking points. The infotainment system can be linked to the Renault EASY LINK multimedia system through My Renault app to access several services. The Twingo Z.E. also features a B mode that offers three levels of regenerative braking, which charges the battery every time the driver takes the foot off the accelerator pedal.
Apart from the Twingo Z.E., the Renault Z.E. range consists of the Twizy quadricycle, Zoe hatchback, Kangoo Z.E. and Master Z.E. vans, RSM SM3 Z.E. saloon and City K-ZE. The Twingo Z.E. is assembled at the Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia, where other versions of Twingo are also made.
Renault Twingo electric is not coming to India
We have confirmation from Renault India’s managing director Venkatram Mamillapalle that the company is not looking at importing electric cars or kits of electric cars for the Indian market. Renault would be using the CMF-A platform to build its first electric car and intends to launch it next year with a for-India, made-in-India strategy.
